About Coach Dave

We all have blind spots.

They're rarely the obvious things. More often, they're the habits we've stopped noticing, the assumptions we've stopped questioning, and the stories we've started believing about ourselves. They're the quiet places where we settle for "good enough" when we're capable of so much more.

I've discovered something over the years: lasting transformation doesn't usually begin with a dramatic moment. It begins with an honest one.

For me, it was an ordinary Saturday morning.

That morning forced me to confront a version of myself I never intended to become. I had convinced myself that life had simply gotten busy. Work, family, responsibilities—those had become my excuses. But excuses don't change reality. I had developed blind spots, and they were quietly shaping the direction of my life.

The decision that came from that morning didn't just change my health. It changed the trajectory of my life.

That journey eventually led me to complete dozens of marathons, ultra-marathons, Iron-distance races, and countless other endurance events. It also shaped the way I lead organizations, coach executives, mentor emerging leaders, serve my church, write, speak, and, perhaps most importantly, the way I try to live each day.

Along the way, I realized something that has become the foundation of everything I do:

Growth isn't about becoming someone else. It's about becoming who you were capable of being all along.

For more than three decades, people have known me simply as Coach Dave. It started coaching my kids and other youth on athletic fields and eventually followed me into leadership, the workplace, and everyday life. Coaching, I've learned, has very little to do with sports. It's about helping people see what they can't see on their own, asking the questions that matter, and creating the kind of accountability that leads to lasting change.

That's why I created NoBS with Coach Dave.

NoBS doesn't stand for what many people assume (although with my style, it kind of does). It stands for Blind Spots. Because every one of us has them, and every meaningful breakthrough begins by recognizing them.

Whether I'm working with an executive preparing for greater responsibility, speaking to a room full of leaders, writing a book, or sitting across the table from someone over a cup of coffee, my goal is always the same:

To help people notice what they've been missing, own what needs to change, build something better, and sustain it over time.

Because lasting transformation doesn't happen by accident.

It happens one honest conversation, one intentional decision, and one courageous step at a time.
